Dec. 20 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Kitzmiller V. Dover, Pa.
lawsuit. This was a suit brought by 11 people against the
Dover Area School District on the subject of teaching
"Intelligent Design". In the legal case Kitzmiller
v. Dover, tried in 2005 in a Harrisburg, PA, Federal
District Court, "intelligent
design" was found to be a form of creationism, and therefore,
unconstitutional to teach in American public schools.
The plaintiffs sued for costs and damages. And injunctive
relief. It cost the school district $1,000,011. In an interesting
twist, the plaintiffs attorneys stated they were due 2,000,000 but,
since the parties responsible for the mess (Entire school
board) was turned out and since the school district was so
small they'd settle for half. The plaintiffs got $1.00 apiece.
